  2. Hezbollah, if operating, is further south, around Ciudad del Este (formerly Puerto Stroessner) and the Igazu falls. The Chaco is way further north, reported to have (besides snakes and Mennonites) oil. Give that Dubya never found oil as an “oilman”, that’s a good indication that the alleged oil in Chaco is a bust.

    However, he should be close to Mariscal Estirrigaray, our big new airbase in northcentral Paraguay. And the FBI has opened a new office in Asuncion, so he should feel right at home.

  3. use Google earth and type or paste in Mariscal Estigarribia, Paraguay It’s a huge base with a bigger landing strip than Asuncion. Also the country has agreed to a hold-harmless on US troops and US actions in their country.

    About a year and a half ago (here and here), I referred to Sun Myung Moon’s purchase of 600,000 hectares of Paraguay’s Chaco for the stated intention of erecting an “ecological paradise.” Moon’s land sits atop the Guarani Aquifer, the Earth’s largest resource of fresh drinking water, and also happens to be an “enormously strategic point in both the narcotics and arms trades,” according to Paraguay’s drug czar from 1976-89.
