A presidential commission said U.S. intelligence was ‘dead wrong’ about the military threat posed by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and urged overhauling the nation’s spy agencies to fight terrorism and weapons proliferation.
The commission said a ‘major intelligence failure’ by the Central Intelligence Agency and other U.S. spy agencies misled President George W. Bush into believing Iraq had stockpiled chemical and biological weapons and planned to produce nuclear weapons.
Or was it the intelligence agencies telling Bush what he wanted to hear – what he, in effect, ordered them to tell him? They wanted their war. They made up ‘facts’ to justify it. Now Bush wants to blame the whole thing on bad advisers. Which is precisely what indicted CEOs do, try to blame everything on underlings and pretend to be clueless.
