Protest zone draws ire

Furious that protesters are being shoehorned into an enclosed space, lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Lawyers Guild said they will ask a federal judge to open up or move the zone.

Protestors, sensibly, are ignoring the internment camp and taking it to the streets instead.

The official Democratic response?

So far, the Dems have shown only their contempt for the plight of their detractors. “People had the opportunity long ago to speak to their delegates,” said a press aide for the convention committee. “There are plenty of other ways to make your voice heard other than protesting.”

How Republican of them…

From someone who was at the cage

A word of advice: Do not make the mistake of making your first visit to the free speech zone on your day of protest. It will be too late to realize what you are getting into.

It’s crazy to think that this is happening in Boston, a city that fronts a reputation of being a cradle of constitutional values.

By giving free speech an unacceptable location, the City of Boston has unwittingly declared that the entire city is now a free speech zone.

The Bl(A)ck Tea Society  agrees!

Oh, if you’re in Boston now, don’t walk, look or stop

Basically, Vijay Shah, of Cambridge, told us later, he was detained for “walking, looking, and stopping.”

Bush will do the same, if not worse in NYC

When President Bush travels around the United States, the Secret Service visits the location ahead of time and orders local police to set up “free speech zones” or “protest zones,” where people opposed to Bush policies (and sometimes sign-carrying supporters) are quarantined. These zones routinely succeed in keeping protesters out of presidential sight and outside the view of media covering the event.
