US troops saw Afghan slaughter, claims TV documentary

A British documentary claims to have proof that American troops watched the slaughter of thousands of captured Taliban fighters during the Afghan war. The makers of Channel Five’s Afghan Massacre say they have evidence US special forces were present during the alleged atrocities by Northern Alliance soldiers.

A total of 3,000 are said to have died when they were forced to travel 120km in sealed containers to Sheberghan Prison after the fall of Kunduz. The US Central Command denies the allegations and says no Americans were ever present. But the documentary’s producer, James Doran, believes witness statements and photographs will leave the US authorities with no choice but to investigate.

Addendum: 11/09. The highly reliable Robert Young Pelton says on his mailing list that these reports could easily be Taliban propaganda.
