Pelosi’s rise reflects a decision by House Democrats to adopt a more confrontational approach to dealing with the White House and their GOP counterparts. Pelosi pledged to draw sharp differences with Republicans on the economy, prescription drugs, Social Security, the environment and other issues so voters will have a clear choice.
“The Democratic Party is the party of the public interest. (Republicans) are the party of special interests. We have to make that clear to the American people,” she said.
