Sharing smart meter data

The White House recently announced an agreement with nine “major electricity suppliers” under which consumers will be able to get access to data about their own energy use

Hmm, considering that smart meter data also includes when the power was used, I’m guessing one type of electricity user will absolutely NOT want their data shared [...]

Idaho has too much wind power

Excess wind power in Idaho in putting strains on their grid. So, the state is clamping down on the size on new wind projects. What a waste.

This is why we need stored power at grid scale. If those wind farms could store power for future use, then most of Idaho’s grid problems would vanish.

Why we need distributed energy and smart grids

After Gutenberg explores this and more in an article focusing on Texas and its huge and expanding amount of wind power. We have technology now that uses heat produced in creating electricity to create more even electricity. Why waste it?

Smart grids

The U.S. electricity grid today resembles the roads and highways of the mid-twentieth century before the interstate highway system was built. What is needed today is the electricity equivalent of the interstate highway system.

The inability to move low-cost electricity to consumers because of congestion on transmission lines brings with it costs similar to [...]
