The tsunami is expected to hit Hilo at 11 am local time with a height of 9 feet, certainly dangerous but thankfully nothing like their devastating tsunami of 1946 with its 46 ft high surge.
But no one is taking any chances, nor should they.

We went to the Pacific Tsunami Museum there, which is often staffed by people who survived them. Hawaii now has buoys in the Pacific which can provide multi-hour early warnings.
