Wales plans hydrogen fuel stations

The stations will be on M4 in Wales and will be part of a network reaching to London for fuel cell cars. Plus, the hydrogen will be created from renewable sources.

“If you build it, they will come.”

SunHydro plans hydrogen fueling stations from Maine to Florida

SunHydro is the world’s first chain of privately funded fueling stations that provide hydrogen to fuel cell cars. Our goal is to produce hydrogen on site and using ONLY solar and water.

We are currently building a system that would allow a hydrogen powered vehicle to travel from Maine to Florida on SUN [...]

World’s first fuel cell ship

The Viking Lady, owned by the Norwegian shipping firm Eidesvik, has a 320-kilowatt molten carbonate fuel cell that powers the 9,500 ton vessel. It’s the first ship to ever use fuel cell technology

The fuel cells run on LNG, can use methanol, and greatly reduce carbon emissions. No, they don’t power the entire ship [...]

Fuel cells for home use at grid parity in 3-5 years

Bloom Energy, who is backed by venture capital heavyweight Kleiner Perkins, plans home fuel cell systems that will generate electricity at grid parity prices within a few years

Grid parity is the point at which renewable electricity is equal to or cheaper than grid power

This could be a seriously big deal.

[Early test systems] [...]

Buckeye Bullet 2 claims speed record for fuel cell vehicles, 300.9 mph

[It is] the first hydrogen vehicle to top 300 mph and the fastest FIA recorded speed for an electric drive vehicle.

From The Buckeye Bullet 2 blog

It is designed and built by Ohio State University students, in the College of Engineering, out of the Center for Automotive Research in Columbus, Ohio.

And the [...]

Highly portable power anywhere

Critical Solutions makes a line of portable power generation systems that use solar and wind as primary power with backup provided by fuel cells, diesel, or propane. They are designed to run without human intervention and can phone home with status updates.

The Titan system in the photo has an extensible tower with a [...]

Ok, we need more hydrogen for the fuel cells, everyone drink some coffee

Ohio University researchers have discovered a way to create hydrogen from urine at a fraction of the cost of generating it from water. Thus, I suppose, if fuel cell powered cars become a reality, Starbucks could open branches next to the hydrogen fueling stations, thus providing a ready supply of urine.

Will urine futures start [...]

Hydrogen fuel tanks made from chicken feathers

This is actually a big deal, because the special qualities of heated chicken feathers make them perfect nanotubes for storing hydrogen, as in fuel cell car storage tanks, and the price is way cheap too.

In addition to hydrogen storage, the new method could turn chicken feather fibers into a number of other eco-products [...]

Creating biofuel and hydrogen fuel together

A German firm plans to produce biofuel then use the glycerin product to create hydrogen for the already existing hydrogen filling stations for fuel cell cars.

Power your house with 5 liters of water per day

Sounds fanciful, but this is MIT talking…

MIT will announce its patent next week of a cheap, efficient, manufacturable electrolyzer made from cobalt and potassium phosphate. This technology, powered by a 6 meter by 5 meter photovoltaic array on the roof, is capable of powering an entire house’s power needs plus a fuel cell good [...]
