Getty Images now allows free images with their embed tool. Wow.

Getty Images just rolled out a new plan allowing 40 million of their images to be used for free using their embed tool. Click the little embed icon on the image then cut and paste the code. Getty is to be hugely congratulated for this bold and welcome move (especially considering they use to be seriously hard ass on the usage issue.)

This new embed tool is aimed at non-commercial content… This is really for Getty to get more embedded into the world of social media and user-generated content a la Tumblr and sites like it that have become popular havens for people freely repurposing copyrighted media.
