Ethiopia is building the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. It will dam the Nile. Egypt currently gets 75% of all water from the Nile. That’s about to change. Once the dam is built, Ethiopia and its neighbors will have much more water for themselves.
“Ethiopia is killing us,” taxi driver Ahmed Hossam said, as he picked his way through Cairo’s notoriously traffic-clogged streets. “If they build this dam, there will be no Nile. If there’s no Nile, then there’s no Egypt.”
Ethiopians in Egypt have been beaten. Some Egyptian politicians are saying the dam is a declaration of war. This could get seriously nasty.
