Before Snowden’s revelations about the NSA, I supported smart meters that feed data back to the utility in order to better monitor and allocate power. My views have changed. The utilities share data with the government. Some smart meters have the ability to turn off or regulate your appliances. Sorry, but that’s just too much intrusion by the government and corporations into our lives.
If I want to do a load of laundry on a hot day during peak hours, I don’t want the washing machine saying “I’m sorry Bob, but I can’t let you do that.”
