Radioactive water breaches Fukushima barriers. TEPCO, govt negligent

TEPCO and Japan government plan immediate action, once they have a plan, that is. But first they need a clue.

After its usual months of lies and evasions, TEPCO has been forced to tell the truth. Radioactive water from Fukushima is freely flowing into the Pacific after flowing over their silly little barriers. The government of Japan says they will now take a “proactive role” in solving this environmental disaster. Well, the government would do this if they had an actual plan or were intervening decisively to do something, but they’re not. Why is the government treating TEPCO so gingerly? Why are they so hesitant about taking immediate action at Fukushima?

Radioactive water from Fukushima has been flowing into the sea since March 2011. The government had to know this and thus is as criminally negligent as TEPCO. Radioactive particles could reach the US West Coast in 3-5 years, says National Geographic.

A mathematical model… found that radioactive particles disperse through the ocean differently at different depths. The scientists estimated that in some cases, contaminated seawater could reach the western coast of the United States in as little as five years. Buesseler thinks the process occurs a bit more rapidly, and estimates it might take three years for contamination to reach the U.S. coastline.
