US trees burned in British coal plants count as renewable energy

my-brain-hurts

Ouch, this makes my brain hurt. Sending US trees to Britain (a process which surely emits a wee bit of carbon itself, what with cutting trees, trucking them, then shipping them) are burnt in coal plants (producing more emissions) to generate electricity – and then through a marvelously deranged Bizarro World thought process, gets to count as renewable energy.

Burning trees for electricity certainly gives new meaning to the term “green energy” – insomuch as it isn’t green at all. Well, I suppose the trees were once green? I guess they’ve got us there.
