San Diego wins huge water war against Imperial County

The California Superior Court rules that a pact between San Diego and Imperial counties is valid, which means san Diego gets to keep upwards of 180,000 acre feet of water a year from the Colorado River.

This was a brass-knuckles multi-year battle. As always with California water, the politics are convoluted and endless. Imperial valley gets all its water from the Colorado and is primarily agricultural. They’ve had to leave farmland idle and reduce water flows into the inland salt water Salton Sea. This could have serious effects should the Sea start drying up, which is probable.
