The Department of Commerce raised tariffs on Chinese solar panel imports with a 31% levy, supposedly to prevent dumping. However, much of the polysilicon that China uses to create those solar panels comes from the States. China may retaliate by raising tariffs on that silicon, raising prices on solar panels worldwide, and igniting a green trade war.
All of this is pointless and stupid. Sure, China subsidizes their renewable energy companies. So does the United States.
The President has repeatedly reaffirmed his support for green energy, but he is making solar power less affordable, and at a time when the industry is still dependent on massive subsidies.
