A Serbian startup, Strawberry Energy, is building public solar-powered charging stations. GigaOm says this is exactly what all cities need, especially considering what happened to New York and New Jersey after mega-storm Sandy, when the recharge zombies wandered the streets searching for power. Portable devices can be lifesavers in emergencies, but only if you have power. Public recharging stations need to be everywhere. During disasters, they would also become meeting places, where people would gather, exchange information, and figure out what to do next.
