Surely having “local statutes enforced by drone” with drones in the air watching the populace would never be used by politicians to track opponents or by law enforcement for illegal monitoring of alleged dissidents, because that would just be wrong. Oh wait, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn walked away free after surfacing from ten years underground because the FBI committed so many crimes trying to find them that their evidence couldn’t be used in court. And this was decades before drones started being used.
We look forward to the exciting new abuses that drone technology will bring, including the inevitable errors and mistakes. But inquiring minds want to know. Just which statutes can be enforced by drones? Those thinking about spitting on the sidewalk or littering better be darned careful in Long Island City, that’s for sure!. However, drones will do little if anything to stop corporate crime, money laundering, and other financial crimes. So, this is really just theater and a distraction from other issues, reminiscent of how J. Edgar Hoover for years went after car thieves and ignored organized crime.
Besides, it’s probably just a matter of time until hackers figure out how to disable or take control of drones by viruses or other measures.
