Republicans want Todd Akin to drop out yet just approved a platform “calling for a Constitutional amendment outlawing abortion with no explicit exceptions for cases of rape or incest” which certainly is about as extreme as it gets. No word on their thoughts on, say, the sanity and mental health of a 15 yo girl who has been impregnated by her father and then must give birth to the child. But then, according to Akin’s deranged logic, if she got pregnant she must not have fought back hard enough.
His apology for the odious “legitimate rape” statement wasn’t really an apology. He didn’t retract it but said he “used the wrong words in the wrong way,” whatever that means.
Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider never becomes irrelevant, does it? Now, yet again, the lunatic fringe is on the move within the Republican Party. This will probably toss the election to Obama but insures we’ll have no substantive discussion on pressing issues like jobs and crime in high places.
