The Mississippi Sheiks were the first all-Black band to get a national recording contract. The ever-changing lineup was mainly from the Chatmon family of Mississippi. However, early blues god Charlie Patton was probably a member briefly as was Memphis Minnie. Several members later moved to New Orleans and played a role in the birth of jazz.
Their music absolutely stands the test of time.
