U.S. Solar Market Insight: 2nd Quarter 2011

Greentechmedia highlights the booming installation of solar PV in the past 18 months. But at the risk of being a Grinch, the total installed is about 1.5 GW. There are individual coal and nuclear plants that output considerably more than that. California is projected to have a peak load of 32 GW today and yesterday renewables accounted for 15% of the total power (PDF). California is way ahead of other states, some of whom have microscopic amounts of renewables.

So there’s still a very long way to go.
