Democrats get smoked in what should have been safe district

A little-known Republican in a heavily Democratic district in NYC has defeated a prominent Democratic inthe race for Anthony Weiner’s former seat.

One voter said “I am a registered Democrat, I have always been a registered Democrat, I come from a family of Democrats — and I hate to say this, I voted Republican. I need to send a message to the president that he’s not doing a very good job. Our economy is horrible. People are scared.”

The chairwoman of the DNC made a remarkably comatose statement, “In this district, there is a large number of people who went to the polls tonight who didn’t support the president to begin with and don’t support Democrats – and it’s nothing more than that.” Statements like that make you realize just how calcified and inept Democratic leadership is. The reality is the district is 3-1 Democratic and this is the first Republican win in nearly a century.

Thus, this is a seriously big deal, no matter how much Democrats pretend to ignore it.

And they ignore it at their peril. From the respected Field Poll. Californians sour on Obama

“When you’re seeing vulnerability in a state like California, I think that really is ominous for his national standing,” Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo said.
