California tragi-comedy continues on prison overcrowding

The US Supreme Court recently ordered California to reduce prison overcrowding because it is unconstitutional. A previous court ruling in 1996 made it apparent that such a ruling was coming if California did nothing to relieve the problem, which of course it didn’t do.

Now that the Supremes have ordered California to comply, the state is saying it can’t do anything without funding from the eternally gridlocked legislature, so it may be in danger of violating the court order.
