Why we desperately need a smart electrical grid

The Bonneville Power Administration may be forced to tell wind farms to shut down because high water levels are creating more hydro power than the grid can handle. Extra wind power would just make things worse. So wind farms may have to shut down.

If we had a smart grid that could store energy at grid scale, some of these problems could be alleviated.

Since California imports large amount of energy from other states and has stupidly ruled that large hydro does not qualify as renewable energy, any shutdown of BPA wind power means California will have to buy renewable energy elsewhere at presumably higher prices. Sharp thinking, that.
