In this interview by al Jazeera , intelligence professional Sylvia Longmire says the cartels are hybrids, insurgencies as well as criminal, and the solution must be multi-faceted. We need to discuss legalization as well as social programs and economic reform so drugs aren’t the only way for desperately poor Mexicans to make money (BTW she’s no bleeding heart liberal, just a realist.) Then maybe Mexico wouldn’t have 14-year-old assassin / torturers.
