Naga Viper. World’s hottest pepper can “strip paint”

Hananeros? Wimpy! Move over Bhut Jolokia, there’s a new kid in town. The hottest pepper is now the Naga Viper, which was created by a British chili farmer, Gerald Fowler. It measures 1,359,000 on the Scoville scale of hotness. By contrast, the Bhut Jolokia measures about 1,050,000, habaneros are 300,000-500,000, while jalapenos are a chalk-like 5,000 or so.

Fowler says “It’s painful to eat. It’s hot enough to strip paint. It numbs your tongue, then burns all the way down. It can last an hour, and you just don’t want to talk to anyone or do anything. But it’s a marvelous endorphin rush. It makes you feel great.”

“The Naga Viper, contender for worlds hottest chilli, eaten whole by Clifton Chili Club’s Dave L.” It’s creeper, and just keeps coming and building. Dave was not a happy camper at the end.
