Al Gore: Corn-based ethanol was a mistake

First generation corn-based ethanol is inefficient and highly subsidized. Gore now favors second generation cellulosic ethanol from crop leftovers and switchgrass.

“It is not a good policy to have these massive subsidies for first-generation ethanol…One of the reasons I made that mistake is that I paid particular attention to the farmers in my home state of Tennessee and I had a certain fondness for the farmers in the state of Iowa because I was about to run for president.”

  1. Nice that he now sees in 2010 what we all predicted back in 2002. I wonder if he’ll start listening to people noting that even using switchgrass isn’t the way to go (though it’s by far better than corn). Nah.. that would take leadership and foresight.
