Texas to be first state with offshore wind

Texas gets it when it comes to energy. They have most installed wind power of any state and even have their own self-contained grid. They don’t need power from anyplace else.

Now they are installing the first offshore wind power in the US, a 2.75 MW turbine, with a whopping 3.5 GW of offshore wind area already leased.

The US is so far behind Europe on offshore wind that it’s embarrassing. May other states follow the lead of Texas (or will Massachusetts argue about offshore wind for ten more years?)

  1. I don’t think there’s very much offshore wind in Europe yet, either. A lot is planned, but not too much has actually been put into place, iirc.
