SEO is dead. Long live SEO

Google Instant, which is available now in the search bars on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, will be on all Google searches soon. When you type in a search phrase, it starts producing results with the first letter, based on your past search history.

This continues a trend I’ve been noticing. Traditional SEO (Search Engine Optimization), getting a site ranked high in search engines especially on Google, is increasingly challenging because there is no one search result for a given keyword. Instead, everyone gets a different result.

A client recently asked why wasn’t his site on the first page of Google anymore and when I searched for the same keyword myself, his site was #4. Google was feeding us different results based on our search history and maybe even geographical location.

Google Instant continues that trend. SEO will morph and change to meet this new situation of course. However, the best way to get readers is also the best way to get high search rankings. Have quality content.
