Obama’s speech was about the most abject failure for a major presidential address as I can remember. Conservatives aren’t rubbing it in either. Things are too serious for that and besides, they too want coherent leadership against the calamity facing us.

Whether it’s Wall Street or health insurers or oil companies, we are approaching a turning point as a nation. The top executives of powerful corporations are pursuing profits in ways that menace the nation.
I’m sure our president knows it too. He must tell is like it is — not with rancor but with the passion and conviction of a leader who recognizes what is happening and rallies the nation behind him.
Good luck with that. Has Obama done anything ever to slap down corporatists? To the contrary, he backs them and runs interference for them whenever possible.
