Some employers are now specifically saying in job ads that the unemployed need not apply. Why? Because apparently if the are unemployed their skills must be out of date or they are assumed to be icky. It’s also probably due to the overwhelming numbers of applications they get now for jobs, this is one (deeply unfair and pointless) way of whittling down the stack of resumes to something manageable.
But this is just Social Darwinist garbage. A shrimp fisherman in Louisiana isn’t unemployed because he is a failure but because of events beyond his control. And deliberately excluding the unemployed from consideration for jobs will create an hardcore underclass of seriously pissed-off people.
