The GE Energy Smart® LED replacement for a 40-watt bulb uses just 9 watts, spreads light in all directions like an incandescent, and will last 17 years (at 4 hours a day, 3x longer than CFLs). It outputs 450 lumens, which is more than existing LEDs.
