Texas Tornados. Mendocino

The Texas Tornados along with their predecessor group The Sir Douglas Quintet were trailblazers who more or less invented Tex-Mex music and were bi-lingual and cross-cultural from the start. This version of Mendocino smokes, with its pumping rhythm section and keyboards that sound like accordions.

The orginal lineup was Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers (both from Sir Doug) Freddie Fender, and Flaco Jiménez, all accomplished musicians who had successful careers on their own.

A new version of the Texas Tornados with Meyers, Jiménez, and Doug Sahm’s son, Shawn is touring now.

Thanks for the tip, Gary!
