The Catholic Church is a criminal enterprise

Taibbi unleashed. The Church is selling snake oil, knows it, and can’t change or they lose their authority and (no rapidily disintegrating) power over people. He suggests the Church be prosecuted under RICO and have their tax-exempt status yanked. Taxpayers, via tax-exemption, should not be forced to fund their continuing criminal enterprise of covering for pedophilia and extreme child abuse – or worse. Some of the cases documented by the Irish government were torture, infants beaten bloody, that kind of thing. It went on for decades. And that’s just in Ireland. Something deep within in the Catholic Church is rotten to the core.

One expects professional slimeballs like the public relations department of Goldman Sachs to pull out the “Well, we weren’t the only thieves!” argument when accused of financial malfeasance. But I almost couldn’t believe my eyes as I read through [New York Archbishop] Dolan’s retort and it dawned on me that he was actually going to use the “We weren’t the only child molesters!” excuse.

So while schools, parole officers, judges, lawyers and therapists may have been deficient in their understanding of child abuse back in 1962, the Catholic church is alone among all of them in continuing to not get it since then. Despite massive public scandal over the course of what now is decades, they continue to deflect and shield child molesters as a matter of institutional routine.

What the Catholic church is selling is by definition faulty. It can’t change, or it will be out of business. So even if not changing means kids will be continue to be molested, it doesn’t change.

Sooner or later people are going to catch on, the state is going to make a move, and there’s going to be a hell of a lot of church property going up for auction along with the seized Escalades of DEA-busted drug dealers

Pope says will “not be intimidated by petty gossip.” They are both arrogant and clueless aren’t they?
