AT&T New ZERO Charger stops vampire power drain

This is a seriously big deal. It’s A USB compatible universal charger that shuts off the power when the device is charged, saving huge amounts of energy.

It’s the eco-friendly charging solution for your mobile phone. Conventional chargers left plugged in – even when not actively charging – can draw as much as 5 to 20 times more energy than stored in the battery. The advanced, energy-saving AT&T ZERO Charger outperforms other chargers by automatically shutting down when not in use. “Vampire draw” is 100% eliminated and you’ll never have to unplug your charger again! Plus, USB compatibility makes the AT&T ZERO Charger a convenient charging station for many mobile devices!

I bet they sell a zillion of them. Good.

  1. They probably won’t be selling one to me. Nokia has had this initiative for several years now, and their current line of chargers all have this feature. I’ve always put wall-wart or transformer based plug-ins into power strips to turn things off when they’re not in use. The only exceptions I’ve made have been for my alarm clock and my DVR/server which need to be on 24/7 to do their jobs. And even those I’ve tweaked to draw as little power as they can while idle. 🙂
