Shipping container city in Mexico

Inhabitat This hip, colorfully painted shipping container city recently sprung up just outside of Mexico city. Created by a small community of businesses, the project features restaurants, gallery space, bars, funky stores and even living spaces constructed completely out of recycled shipping containers.

Health care reform. Blow it up, start all over again

Progressives appear to be worried the health care reform bill might pass, with Republicans getting some credit for it. Oh, shriek, we can’t have that. That this debate is even happening shows how poisoned the waters are on the current tepid bill.

New Dem worry: GOP taking credit for health care reform

Prediction. Geithner and Bernanke are toast

Bernanke doesn’t have the votes to be reconfirmed and Geithner, having effectively being replaced by Volcker, is attacking Obama’s bank plan – something you’d hardly expect if he thought he’d be staying around.

Hey, if this populist crap doesn’t stop, we could both be job hunting soon

Bernanke Senate confirmation in peril. The vote has been delayed, always a telling signal that the votes might not be there.

Geithner reportedly told Wall Street that Obama is sacrificing good policy for politics. Most illuminatingly, Treasury has twice not [...]

Passivhaus. Requires almost no heat. Even in winter

Treehugger has a slide show explaining how it’s done.

It is hard to believe, but this “mountain hut” in Austria needs next to no heating; it is all done with body heat, cooking heat and passive solar heat. it is an example of a Passivhaus design.
