Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother

Ray Wiley Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lost Gonzo Band. Willie Nelson’s 2nd Annual 4th Of July Picnic. 1974. Bryan/College Station, TX

I heard Jerry Jeff Walker, author of the song, do a recent version on Outlaw Country on Sirius. He was ad-libbing between verses and said, young song writers ask me, what should I think about when I’m writing a song? I tell them, think about if you want to be singing it 25 years later, but hey, careers, have been built on less… But y’know, every six months or so I go to my mail box, and there’s a check waiting, and it ain’t too bad!
