IEA: Little gadgets consume gigawatts of power

All those little electronic gadgets we keep plugged in all the time waste
prodigious amounts of energy, says the International Energy Agency.

We need smart electronics and smart power strips, so electricity isn’t pointlessly drained by gadgets that aren’t being used.

Some solutions here are simple. I keep our toaster, coffee maker, and coffee grinder plugged into a power strip that’s on the counter, then turn on the power at the power strip when using them then turn off the power when done. Thus, the power is on a couple of minutes a day instead of 24/7. The key here is to have the power strip where it’s easily accessible.

Conservation and smart electronics are the easiest, fastest, and cheapest ways to save energy.
