The Veterans Affairs Department faces a “staggering” backlog of 897,566 disability claims with more than 65 percent pending for more than 125 days, a problem compounded by an error rate of 16 percent.
There’s no excuse for this. Our war machine pushes the young into combat then mostly ignores them when they come back maimed and injured. One of my uncles is a retired Marine colonel. He can not fathom how and why veterans get treated so shabbily now, saying that’s not the Marines he spent thirty years in.
