Las Vegas running out of water means dimming Los Angeles lights

Lake Mead

This is a telling example of how convoluted and complicated water policy and water supply is in the Southwest and West. If Lake Mead drops below 1,050, the water will no longer underground to Vegas, because the intake pipes will no longer be underwater. They are desperately building newer, deeper intakes. It [...]

SF Chron business plan. Charge more for less content

The San Francisco Chronicle plans to fire half its employees, then raise the price of the paper and charge for online access.

Such a breathtakingly stupid plan seems typical of the newspaper business. Why, would readers want to pay more for dumbed down or non-existent content?

Let’s hope a buyer is found.

Another Stanford employee told SEC it was a Ponzi scheme…in 2003

The Panic of 2008: How bad is it?

After reciting a litany of horrifying statistics, Newgeography ends with a surprising conclusion.

The reality is that the country achieved astounding economic and social progress since World War II. The reality remains that even after the losses we are not, objectively speaking, experiencing Depression like conditions. Critically, the answer to the question, are you [...]
