Alaska gets 24% of its power renewably

They want to make it 50% by 2025. After all, Alaska has huge renewable energy resources just waiting; tidal, wave, and wind. So the state has pledged $300 million in grant money for renewable energy in the next five years.

Alaska has more than half the country’s ocean wave energy resources and more than 90 percent of its river current and tidal resources.

Sounds like Alaska could become a net power exporter of clean, renewable energy and thus easily make the switch to a cleantech economy from oil.

This is a state that has been resistant to such ideas, but the economics now make sense. That’s the clincher.
