Research the LAPD Rampart scandal and particularly officer David Mack, and you’ll see what I mean.
I reviewed LAPD officer Will Beall’s novel L.A. Rex last February which, while maybe deliberately over the top (and a great read), certainly drew on the real life Rampart story for the plot.
