Madoff asset list won’t be made public

Madoff was required to present a list of all his assets by yesterday to the SEC, who says they won’t make the list public. Their stated reason is that Madoff may have hidden money offshore, and making those accounts public might mean foreign regulators could seize them.

Maybe, but this is the same SEC who deliberately snoozed for eight years and whose chairman publicly said he wanted to destroy the agency, even as they ignored reports about Madoff as early as 2006.

So, who knows what their real reasons are. And, by the way, why is Madoff out on bail while Marc Dreier, whose apparent scam was a mere $380 million (as compared to $50 billion)  was denied bail?
