DC cell phone system expected to melt down during Inauguration

When President-elect Barack Obama takes stage in a few weeks to deliver his inauguration address, no doubt many of the estimated 2 million people expected to gather on the Mall will simultaneously hold their cellphones aloft to snap and send photos, call friends and family, and send text messages like, “omg, yes we did!”

But please don’t, wireless network operators say.

But they will. So I’m guessing the D.C. cell network will melt down under the deluge of phone cells, text messages, bloggers, and photos sent. Local internet access will no doubt be clogged too during this epic and historic event.
