You probably think I’m s-l-o-w, right

This Tango EV beats a Tesla Roadster sports car (also an EV) in the quarter mile. It can do 0-60 in four seconds. Unlike internal combustion engines, an EV has full power instantly from a standing stop, which means the Tango could blow the hubcaps off most any car from a stop light.

BofA to stop financing mountaintop coal removal

Bank of America, a lead financier of coal, announced that they will be phasing out financing for companies that practice mountaintop removal coal mining, a highly destructive and controversial method of coal extraction.

This is the direct result of a whole lot of work by Appalachian activists and groups like Rainforest Action Network, who will now be pressuring other banks to do the same

DuPont CEO. Future cars should run on butanol

Butanol can be used at 85% with no modifications to engines, has more power than ethanol, and can be produced from biomass. So, the head of DuPont says, this is what cars should run on. Sure, DuPont would be happy to produce it in massive quantities, but he does have a point. We must replace petroleum-based fuel with something else.

For the first decade or two of the switch-over to clean energy, vehicles will probably be powered a number of ways, like electricity, hydrogen, and biofuel. Then a few dominant technologies will emerge. This is what happened during 1890-1910 or so, when there were steam, electric, and gas vehicles on the road, and no clear winner.

London police requiring racial profiling of concerts

The Undertones-Teenage Kicks

London Metropolitan police are now requiring concert promotors to fill out an eight page long form with detailed information on performers and the expected ethnicity of the audience. Failure to do so could result in imprisonment. I am not making this up.

Form 696 compels licensees who want to hold live music events in 21 London Boroughs to report to the names, addresses, aliases and telephone numbers of performers, and controversially, the likely ethnicity of their audience.

I’m guessing they would be forgiving should the Royal Opera House forget to fill out the form. But then again, perhaps not, as they must guard against the possibility of crazed opera fans running into the streets yelling “Bravo.”

Feargal Sharkey, who rose to fame during the punk era as the vocalist on the single “Teenage Kicks” by the Undertones, is so angry about what he sees as a threat to live music that he is consulting lawyers about how to stop it.

Good. Can’t imagine punk could have ever taken hold in London had onerous concert regulations like Form 696 been in effect.
