AmericaBlog says Marriot Hotels are heavily Mormon-controlled and execs gave to Yes on 8, noting in particular the Huntington Hotel Group, who owns a number of Marriotts.
In a bizarre coincidence, the Huntington Hotel Group site is now down, and returns “This site has been taken down for maintenance.” Imagine that. The site worked just fine yesterday too. (Google cached copy here.)
They are feeling the pressure.
Marriott Hotels looks to be a fine first target for a national boycott.
The Marriotts are Mormon, as presumably are Brent Andrus and Kevin Keefer, the owners of Huntington Hotel Group. The boycott is not because of their religion but because of their continued interference in secular matters that are none of their business.

Affirmation.org is a group of gay and lesbian Mormons. Let’s remember, this isn’t against Mormons or the right of people to have religious beliefs. It’s against the deliberate and continuing interference by the Mormon hierarchy in secular affairs. There have been protests by Mormons in Salt Lake City and it’s clear LDS members are split on the issue.

The S.F. Chronicle has a useful listing on contributors to both sides of Prop 8 as of Nov 3. Here’s the list arranged by amount of contribution, highest first, for those who gave to Yes on 8. I’m thinking the big contributors to Yes on 8 need to have their businesses boycotted as well as continuing protests outside them. They decided to interfere in the lives of others, so it’s only fair that their lives get interfered with too.
A same-sex marriage rally at the Oakland Mormon Temple this morning forced CHP to close highway ramps.
There are continuing protests in Los Angeles in multiple areas. LA.indymedia has continuing coverage.

Think about it. Obama wants a major push for renewable energy and a smart grid. The primary beneficiaries of that may well be rural, presumably more Republican areas, as that’s where the wind and solar will be installed, something which means many more jobs for those areas.
But the equipment will be built in the cities, which tend to be Democratic. So, in the end, everyone gains. As will we all, once we go renewable.

That’s all I can stand, I can’t stands no more.
The spirit in the air at the San Francisco Marriage Rights march on Friday was unmistakable. There was anger at interference by the Mormon Church in secular affairs and a determination to fight until full equality is achieved. But more important, there was optimism, even happiness. Sooner rather than later, they knew they would overcome.
The Mormon Church will unquestionably be getting a whole lot of unwanted attention. Let’s take a real good look at their tax-exempt status and also let’s also organize boycotts against LDS-owned businesses and any business that heavily funded Yes on 8.
Keep an eye on AmericaBlog here. Editor John Avarosis is already investigating LDS-related businesses and has a long track record of organizing on the web and playing a powerful role in forcing anti-gay groups to back down. He’s already discovered that LDS directly gave $500,000 in support of an anti-gay amendment in Alaska in 1998. Sure seems like that could be a violation of non-profit status laws. Avarosis can be a force of nature when he’s on a roll, and he’s just getting warmed up.

Gays and their friends didn’t have it in for Mormons. Mormons involved themselves in something that was none of their business. Well, now that you’ve made it your business, expect gays and people like me to make your church our business.
And while I don’t speak for God, the only God I find worth believing in is one whose first rule is Love, not Hate. I don’t imagine that God, the god of love, is all that pleased with how you’ve claimed to speak in his name this last year.
But he does believe in folks reaping what they’ve sowed.

Sorry, LDS and Catholic Churches, let me pull out my tiny violin for you. You have used the tenets of your faith to infringe upon my secular government to take away rights from people, and I’m supposed to feel bad that protests are targeting you? I just don’t think so.
Let’s roll.

It’s one thing to raise the issue in a platform. It’s quite another to start implementing a change like this almost overnight. And this has significant ramifications for the entire Executive Branch once the new administration starts.
