Gwatney, Johnson, and the keys

Police say they had no information about any relationship between Timothy Dale Johnson and Arkansas Democratic Party chair Bill Gwatney who he murdered.

Yet they found two sets of keys with Gwatney’s automobile dealership emblems in Johnson’s house. So Johnson must have known or known of Gwatney, else how and why did he have the emblems?

AP reports the keys were for cars from the dealerships. Other sources mention the emblems but not what they keys were for.

Police found a post-it on Johnson’s house with “Gwatney” and a phone number on it.

Johnson was a typical loner, apparently apolitical, a good worker until he nutted up at work on the day of the shooting and walked out. And then shot Gwatney.

Something about this story doesn’t make sense.

Public pension funds want more risk

Rather than simply absorb losses from trading in the currently tricky, highly volatile market, public pension funds are asking regulators to allow them to invest in “alternative” more speculative ways.

This sounds more than a bit like a gambler in Vegas who is down big making increasingly risky bets in hopes of a big win.

But he’s not gambling with other people’s retirement money.

What the Americans seem unable to detect is that the wind is changing.
