Treehugger says “almost all of our petroleum is used for transportation.”
Benjamin J. Turon writes an op-ed in the Schenectady Daily Gazette and makes a very good point about how the Kunstlers and Peak Oil Survivalists “forget history and underestimate the technology available to sustain our technological civilization.”
Electricity can and should be used for as much transportation as possible. Renewable energy can be used to create electricity. Technology can get us out of the petroleum crunch. The doomsayers will decry it to be impossible as they lament our sinful ways, planning to live in yurts and flog themselves. Meanwhile, others will be taking action to create a renewable energy future.

Were you frightened by one in your formative years? Maybe you would be more in tune with a cob house, linseed oil floor, thatch roof, and a humanure toilet (as long as your wifi held out, of course). 😉 Flogging is so old school monastic. Maybe blogging would work for penance, ya think?
I would do penance blogging in a yurt as long as it has at least a T1 line…
An Arab proverb says, “Trust in God, but tie your camel’s leg.” I believe technology will help us through… but I also have a year’s worth of wheat and a few thousand rounds in storage, just in case.
