I always feel that the surveillance in the UK has been taken far too lightly by our citizens, (though by law we are not citizens in this country we are subjects of the crown) There seems to be no outrageous anger from the public at large as the state becomes more and more intrusive. at every turn there is another form of monitoring. We are slowly moving towards compulsory biometric ID cards, a national data base of every citizen's, (subject's) personal information, a card that will be necessary to open/access a bank account, receive medical service, social benefits and no doubt will also be used by employers for a multitude of purposes to suit their ends. We have thousands of innocent kids with the finger prints held by the police. I doubt that the Stasi would have come anywhere near the level of surveillance that this country endures in quiet acceptance and still believes it lives in a democracy. The "War on Terror" duped the public and was used by the state to get a free hand to do what every state dreams of, total surveillance, total control, total monitoring.
