Will Mexico use the border fence to keep Americans out?

Guns and fighters are flowing from Texas to Mexico, reports the NYT. Three Americans got arrested after a pitched gun battle with police. Mexican police called them “hitmen,” and their gang, presumably drug-related, was armed with machine guns.

Dirty coffee-stained keyboard?

Wash it in a dishwasher. Cult of Mac washed their keyboard in a dishwasher after spilling a cup of coffee on it and the result was a spotless keyboard that works perfectly. The key: don’t use soap, then let it dry for several days.

Recession

Goldman Sachs says a recession is near with Merrill Lynch saying it’s already here.

Triggered by the subprime debacle, the rot has spread through all residential real estate and is now impacting commercial real estate, credit card and auto loan debt, with businesses having to pay sharply higher rates for loans, if they can get a loan at all.

The foreclosure rate is climbing, with a mass of resets coming in the next few months.

Just a month or so ago, the investment banks were still saying if the economy hit a bump at all, it would be minor. That’s all changed.

And, according to the venerable Dow Theory, it’s officially a bear market. Yeah, my puts are exploding in value, but I’d rather it was calls that were going up. But I’m doing swing trading now (holding positions from a few days to a few months) and the obvious trend for the market now is down.

Proposed regulations banning moose from having antlers and bears from having claws appear to be “tragically unworkable” according to a spokesperson who, upon closer questioning, admitted to never actually going into a national park because the outdoors is “scary.”

If presidential candidates were stocks

From Slate

Barack Obama is the alternative-energy sector.

Hillary Clinton is Citigroup.

John Edwards is McDonald’s.

Yes, Republicans are listed too. Read on!

P.S. As the presidential horse race heats up, a bit of stock market advice is relevant. Ignore the day to day fluctuations, as they are just noise. Whether it be a stock price or a presidential candidates poll, look for the trends and don’t get distracted by the daily noise.

zero emission fuel cell ferry

A zero emission fuel cell ferry will be shuttling passengers across Alster Lake in Germany this summer. Added bonus. It only needs to be refueled every three days and, of course, it produces no pollution.
