Looking out my back door

This wild turkey wandered in the back yard this morning. The cats were mesmerized. Joey charged it to no avail. The turkey wasn’t even slightly concerned. We live in the semi-burbs outside of Hartford where such wildlife is common. There’s bobcat, deer, bear and other critters in the area too.

Benjamin Franklin wanted to make the wild turkey (though not the domesticated one) our national bird. Said it was brave, resourceful, and intelligent, none of which the eagle was. Looks like old Ben knew whereof he spoke.

They are quite stately too, almost dignified. They can fly 50 mph, which seems hugely fast for a bird that big, they are 3-4 feet tall.
Watching Joey charge the turkey was amusing. He barreled on it at it, then veered away at the last moment apparently realizing the turkey was way bigger than he was.
